What Todd’s Saying…

Hello Colleen,

I stumbled onto your work via your baking cookbook. I’ve been listening to your podcasts over the last several days and they are thoughtful, sane, and compelling. I had actually been lacto-ovo-vegetarian twice in my life, first at age 19 and later in my early 30s; I backslid both times based on social pressure and convenience. I know I was telling myself the lie that California dairy cows are “happy” cows and that “free- range” eggs come from happy chickens running around in some verdant pasture. I thought that being a vegan was too hard, too weird, and “where would I get my protein?” (Roll eyes here).

I’m happy to say that at age 40, my partner and I have both decided to go vegan. We can no longer participate in the horrifying cruelty inherent in the meat, dairy, and egg industries. For the first time I can snuggle with our three kitties and not feel like a hypocrite. Also, I am a physician and I have watched and treated the ravages of heart disease and stroke for the last 10 years. It saddens me to think of how many cases could have been prevented with a vegan lifestyle. You have inspired me to win hearts and minds by being a joyful vegan and by cooking amazing food for my friends, family, and coworkers.

So, thank you, for your amazing work!

Todd
