What Bonnie’s Saying…

Dear Colleen,

I have been vegan on and off for 5 years. Cheese is ALWAYS my downfall. I have been listening to your podcasts and I own all of your cookbooks. I have listened to your podcasts countless times. I find them so motivating and inspirational.

So, you may ask, why did I buy this book (The 30-Day Vegan Challenge) if I have been vegan for 5 years? Well, here is a short answer…..

I got pregnant June 2010 and soon after fell off of veganism (AGAIN) due to severe morning sickness. I could only get down food I ate during childhood, I assume this was for comfort reasons. I began eating cheese again. I ate grilled cheeses, pasta with cheese, pizza etc…. In February 2011 I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy named Justin. I was insistent on breastfeeding him because I did not want to give him dairy based formula. So, I breastfed him while I ate cheese with abandon! After he was one month old I noticed that something was not right, he was suffering from colitis. I bet you can guess what caused that, yes, the cows milk cheese I was eating. His little digestive system could not tolerate cow’s milk protein. I immediately stopped eating cheese and the problem cleared up. I now have been cheese-free for 5 months and I have never felt better. The cherry on top is that my severe cystic acne has completely cleared up as well. I hope to never go back to cheese even after I stop breast-feeding my son. The addiction is so strong and I am surrounded by people who are always eating meat and cheese. I don’t know one person who is vegan. Not one. I got your book as a guide for times that I am about to succumb to my addiction to cheese. I will keep this book as a guide and a reminder as to why I am vegan. I am forever facing questions and ridicule from people. This book will be my vegan bible.

Another reason I bought this book was because I heard your podcast about Michael. I was touched by the tragedy that you described. I can not get him out of my head since hearing your podcast. I want to tell everyone I know the story but I don’t know anyone who will understand. I feel for you and for all of Michael’s friends and family. It is a tragedy in every sense of the word.

Thank you so much for all that you do. You are a true inspiration. And I never want to go back to cheese, never!

Bonnie
